RIP Margaret Hassan

The brother & I walked down to CARE headquarters here and I was somewhat surprised to find only a nearly invisible tribute to that lady. (Link is to a person who expresses the outrage of this whole thing in much the same terms I was doing on the way down there):

Ellis Street, visible to the right of the frame, is one way coming toward the camera, and the area is decidedly devoid of walking destinations and unwelcoming besides, so it's unlikely many people will see this.

UPDATE: I intended to photoblog this, but had to leave my camera so my wife could take pics of my daughter's ballet rehearsal. Thanks to commenter Chris for the reminder.

Why hasn't anyone in the media picked up on the gender issue here? they probably beheaded or worse, a woman. that makes the first, I believe. isn't that worth looking at?

any way, I also have this to say: why would anyone be against a free Iraq? why would you not want to see freedom in the Middle East? are their lives not as valueable as ours?

but hey, what do I know?

Yes, it's occurred to me that the usual mouthpieces of the "insurgents" - Al Jazeera, especially - know that dissemination of the tape of her murder (she was, reportedly, shot in the head) would be a PR disaster.

The mentality that believes videos of beheadings is good for the cause yet knows that Hassan's murder is *not*, is not worth delving into, in my opinion. Sad to say, it's not as if we have to convince them of anything except our willingness to kill them all.

A few days later, CARE did have a table set up in the lobby to hold memorials for the lady...I think when we went they were still waiting for details.
